Confessesion: I have a Bonsai
Trees should not be captured, imprisoned or constrained
Limbs and roots amputated, branches trimmed and tamed
Oh how we humiliate child trees! Stuff their roots in gunny sacks
Bind their branches with rope and chain, heap them up in cordwood stacks
Oh violation of personal space! Mutilated, maimed and mauled,
Transplant, uproot, its all the same, as off to a convenient spot they're hauled.
None would ever dare demean the self-respect of a grown up tree
By plucking up and plopping down a tree that's not where it should be
But our barbers lob their branches into stubby bobs
And instead of flowing locks, a poof sprouts from the knobs
Just gaze into a sycamore, oak, or willow tree
Towering trunk and graceful limbs, now that's how it's should be!
But oh no, trees must just be seen and--goodness! never heard
Thickets are a nuisance, and 'jungle' a dirty word.
