Words
Ralph Waldo Emerson, on the soul:
"When it breathes through man's intellect, it is genius; when it breathes through his will, it is virtue; when it flows through his affections, it is love."
Words like this will cause the biochemist who does not believe the socio-religious invention that humans posses a metephisycal element, to be drawn into possesion, enrapture...in short, faith.
And I wish to be able use words in this way: to make people fall in love with that in which they do not believe, to capture their intrest and passion with something that is outside of themselves, to change the way they look at the trees, at the man beside them on the bus, at their life. To enthrall them with something in which they don't believe, be it the truth of the treatment of women in the Middle East or the existence of Fairies.
